Weldon Lee Canford, 81, passed away peacefully February 10, 2020 at home in Cameron, Missouri where he and his wife had recently moved. He was surround by loving family members.
Weldon was born January 7, 1939 at home on the family farm North of Perrin, Texas to Aaron Lee Cranford and Juanita Wilhoit Cranford. He was brought up in a Christian home. His family were active members of the First Baptist Church Perrin. Weldon accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 13.
He married Dorothy Clark on March 1, 1958 in Perrin by Reverend W.H. McQueary who also married his parents. He graduated Perrin High School in 1957 and then attended Texas A&M and Weatherford College.
Weldon was a farmer and worked with his dad on the family farm growing up and until his dad’s death in 1965. He and Dorothy had their own farming operation and also owned and operated the Perrin Grocery for several years. He owned an independent insurance agency in Jacksboro for 15 years and returned to full time farming. His happiest days were working with his wife and daughters on their farm. Weldon loved God and instilled in his children the value of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He also encouraged them to work and to be active in 4-H where life lessons were also learned. He helped them and inspired them with their own projects showing lambs and calves at livestock shows.
Weldon was a member of First Baptist Church, Perrin. His legacy is his family and his cheerful spirit, always smiling. He enjoyed life and nature. He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling in their RV and shared may happy memories. He also loved the mountains.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine Seay and husband Dan of Mineral Wells, Texas, Lyndie Stephens and husband Alan or Cowgill, Missouri. The pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren, Rance Seay and wife Ashley, Dr. Rachel Hunter and husband Dr. John Hunter, Aaron Stephens and wife Suzan, and Andrew Stephens; precious great granddaughter Vera Mae Stephens and soon to be second great granddaughter; Sister-in-law Mary Clark; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Weldon loved his family and will be sorely missed by them and his many friends.
The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses at Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehabilitation, Kindred Hospice of Mineral Wells, Comfort Care Hospice of Cameron, Missouri, and special care givers, Melissa McMinn and Kayla Carter.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, First Baptist Church, Perrin at 2 PM. Reverend Mark Sims, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be 1-hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Perrin Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Local Missouri arrangements entrusted to Stith Family Funeral Home, Polo.
