Walter "Walt" Shields, Jr.

Walter “Walt” Shields, Jr. - age 79 of Lathrop, MO passed away Monday afternoon, August 30th, 2021 at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO. Walt was born on March 3rd, 1942 the son of Walter Victor Shields, Sr. and Marie Jane (Cook) Shields in Kansas City, MO.  He grew up in Shawnee Mission, KS and graduated from high school at Shawnee Mission North.  On June 2nd, 1979 he was united in marriage to Debbie Pennington and they moved to Lathrop in 1981.  Walt worked as a parts and service manager for Heubel Material Handling.  He also worked as the Clinton County Road and Bridge supervisor and later, the Arning Companies.  Walt attended the Turney United Methodist Church.  He was sweet, easygoing and loyal. Walt was a great husband and fun uncle.  Walt enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and drag racing. He built his own dragster and won the Midwest Allstars Drag Race.  Walt will be dearly missed.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: wife, Debbie of the home; sisters, Ina (Bill) Bledsoe of Olathe, KS, Nada Jensen of Sun City, AZ, Bille (Jim) Mark of Colusa, CA, Florence Davis of Johnston, Iowa, Doris Dean of Lenexa, KS, Janice Frydendall of Pleasanton, KS, Nancy Bruffett of Massachusetts, Debbie (David) Newman of Wichita, KS; 2 sons from a previous marriage; sister-in-law, Larenda Dravenstott of Lawson, brother-in-law, Dr. Steve (D’Andrea) Pennington of Ozark, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to NorthCare Hospice House in care of the funeral home. Per Walt’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
