Walter Dean Hicks

Walter Dean Hicks - age 87 of Polo, MO, completed his earthly journey on March 7, 2024, in Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron, MO, surrounded by loved ones. Dean was born on January 15, 1937, the son of Hershell Dean and Marietta (Price) Hicks in Denver, CO. Dean was baptized at the Polo First Baptist Church in 1951. He was a 1955 graduate of Polo High School. Dean served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1959. He married Maxine Wible and to this union 3 children were born. He was a self-employed carpenter and also worked in maintenance at the nursing home in Lawson. Dean was a member of the Polo American Legion Post #557 and the Polo Masonic Lodge #232. Dean was ornery; he loved to laugh and tease. He particularly liked archery, fishing and hunting. Most of all, Dean loved his family and spending time with them. He was a kind man that will be dearly missed by his family and friends. 

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merlin Hicks and Jimmy Joe Hicks; grandson, Justin Hicks and his companion, Ingrid Shipley. He is survived by his children, Adriana Gorham (Bill) of Polo, MO; Kenny Hicks of Polo, MO and Max Hicks (Nina) of Polo, MO; grandchildren, Jessica McFatrich (Darren), Niki Warner (Brent), Amber Mantlo (Eric), Chris Gorham (Ann), Zac Hicks (Lindsey), Tara Robinson (Brian), Jacob Hicks (Emily), Joely Peel (Dakota), Jaeger Hicks, Jaxon Hicks, Jace Hicks, Allexa Storts, and Elam Storts; and twenty great-grandchildren; several other extended family members also survive.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Zimmerman Cemetery in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Dean's life will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Polo Community Church (600 Main St, Polo).  The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Zimmerman Cemetery, south of Polo. Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Polo (660) 354-2214.
