Vernon "Pete" Peterson

Vernon "Pete" Peterson - age 80 of Osborn, MO, passed away Friday morning, December 24th, 2021, at Oregon Care Center in Oregon, MO. Vernon was born on July 12, 1941, the Son of John and Edna (Snider) Peterson in Lathrop, MO. He grew up and attended school in Lathrop. He lived in Kansas City and Jasper before moving to Osborn 20 years ago. Pete married Shirley Gannaway and to this union, a daughter was born. He later married Susan Miller and to this union, 4 children were born. Pete was an over the road truck driver for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and BBQ. Pete loved animals, especially cats, rabbits, and birds. He would often nurse them back to health. Pete was ornery and had a good sense of humor. He would give the shirt off his back and was always willing to help his neighbors. He loved cherry pie. Pete will be dearly missed by his family and friends. 

 He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Roxanne Coy; granddaughter, Monique Meadows; and siblings, Paul Peterson, Richard Peterson, Ed Peterson, Dean Peterson, and Bonnie Irwin. He is survived by his children, Beth Blystone of Osborn, MO, Melissa Lucas (John) of Jasper, MO, Pete Peterson (Wendy) of Plattsburg, MO, Mark Peterson of Jasper, MO, Christy Harr (Brian) of Liberal, MO, Steven McManis (Sharon) of Carthage, MO, Michael McManis (Cami) of Jasper, MO, and Laura McManis (Danny) of Jasper, MO; 4 grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Nancy Huxtable of Liberty, MO, Nellie Gauldin (Charles) of Independence, MO, and Gloria Valentine of Magnolia, TX. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Dementia Society of America in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, December 29th, 2021, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
