Roy D. Wieneke

Roy D. Wieneke - age 97 of Lathrop, MO passed away Sunday morning, March 14th, 2021 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. Roy was born on June 9th, 1923 the son of Adolph and Jennie (Haynes) Wieneke in Bloomfield, IA.  He was a 1941 graduate of Bloomfield High School. On October 14th, 1943 he was united in marriage to Marcella Yearns in Memphis, MO. Roy served in the United States Army during World War II.  The family moved to Lathrop in 1949.  He worked as a self-employed electrician.  Roy served on the Lathrop Volunteer Fire Department, Lathrop City Council and was the mayor of Lathrop.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #467 in Lathrop and the First Baptist Church of Lathrop, where he was a deacon. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Roy bowled often, including one week before his passing, often bowling a 143 and he last bowled a 300 in 2017.  He was always there for his family and friends, and was the best dad and grandpa.  Roy was a positive person, finding the good in everything and everyone.  He was a man of faith and will be dearly missed by many. 

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella; siblings, Hazel Price, Clell Wieneke, Kenneth Wieneke, Harold Wieneke, and Wayne Wieneke. Survivors: children, John (Maggie) Wieneke of Lathrop, Debra (Mark) McDonald of Washington, MO; brother, Raymond (Opal) Wieneke of Stewartsville; sisters-in-laws, Josephine and Margaret Wieneke; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Lathrop. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, March 19th, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Lathrop. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:30 AM at the church. Friends may view and pay respects on Thursday from 11 AM to 5 PM at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop.  Burial with full military honors will follow the services at Lathrop Cemetery in Lathrop.
