Virgil Ross Rogers, Jr.

Virgil Ross Rogers, Jr., known to family and friends as Ross, of Kidder, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on September 28, 1949, in Smithville, Missouri, the son of Virgil Ross and Norma Joan (Bonner) Rogers.

He grew up in Lathrop, Missouri, and graduated from Lathrop High School with the Class of 1967. Following graduation, Ross served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a jet engine mechanic.

After returning home, he began working as a meat cutter at Howard’s in Lathrop, later continuing his career at Big V Country Mart in Smithville, where he worked faithfully for many years.

Ross was a devoted Christian who found peace and fulfillment in reading the Bible and believing in his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed life in the country, running his dogs and training horses. Most of all, Ross loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many activities. His family was the heart of his life, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sons, Justin Tyler Rogers (Maranda) of Nixa, Missouri, and Curtis Thane Rogers (Haley) of St. Joseph, Missouri; five grandchildren: Aryana, Evelyn, Elise, Kyson, and Guy; and his sister, Sara Clarice McCray (Ed) of Agency, Missouri. Extended family members and friends also survive.

A service celebrating Ross’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lathrop Cemetery.
