Norma Rue (Skinner) Griffin Obituary

Norma Rue (Skinner) Griffin, age 88 of Gallatin, MO passed away Sunday evening, April 2, 2023, at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin, Missouri. Norma was born on December 27th, 1934, twenty minutes after the birth of Nancy Sue, her twin sister on the family farm east of Jameson, MO to Irvin and Alice (Croy) Skinner. They were greeted by Dixie Lea, their older sister. They attended Smith and Scotland Country Schools for eight years and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1953. Following graduation, Norma continued to help her dad on the farm. Norma was a devoted Christian all her life and an example for many. She was baptized and became a member of the Old Scotland Church of Christ, later moving her membership to the Gallatin Church of Christ, where she lived. In May of 1954, she was united in marriage to Vernon Griffin and they had two wonderful sons, James and Joseph, who also graduated from Gallatin High School.  In 1954, Norma began working for the City of Gallatin as Deputy City Clerk and the Police Department Court Clerk. After 20 years with the city, she began a 36-year career as the Daviess County Deputy Assessor. Norma was elected the first woman Mayor of Gallatin and served 4 years before being elected to the City Council. She was a long-time member of the Daviess County Business Women Association and served on the Old Scotland Cemetery Board. After retirement she worked part-time for the Daviess County Sheriff's Department. She enjoyed all her jobs. She loved her family, church family and work friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Vernon Griffin in 1997; parents, Irvin and Alice; beloved twin sister, Nancy Atwood and her husband John and brother-in-law, Bill Rogers. Survivors include: son, Jim (Sharon) Griffin of Searcy, Arkansas; son, Joe Griffin of Gallatin; granddaughter, Jessica (John Wesley) of Searcy, Arkansas; grandson, Jarrod (Kelsey) of Austin, Texas; great-grandchildren, Maya, Elly, Jude and Finn (Griff); sister, Dixie Rogers of Jameson, MO; nephew, (Mike) Linda Rogers of Sparta, MO; niece, Marieta (Danny) Stretch of Greenwood, MO; brother-law, Bob Morgan of Albany, MO; sister-in-law, Carolyn Griffin of Coffey, MO.
