Neil Halvorson

Neil Halvorson - age 53 of Braymer, MO and formally of Cowgill, MO passed away Friday night, June 25th, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.  Neil was born on August 18th, 1967 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the son of Alfred and Ellen Mary (Levitt) Halvorson.  He beat the odds throughout his life. Due to a heart defect, Neil was not expected to live past one year of age.  At age 12 he had corrective heart surgery.  He attended the Richmond State School in Richmond, MO.  Neil was loving and had a special place in his heart for his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  He loved family get togethers but was always ready for people to leave. Birthdays were very special and serious occasions for Neil.  He loved any kind of pop, especially Dr. Pepper.  Neil loved eating and was a connoisseur of junk food.   He enjoyed baseball cards, the Kansas City Royals, Elvis and comic books. He loved God and spoke often about looking forward to being with Him. Neil will be dearly missed, but his chains are gone. 

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and a nephew-in-law.  Survivors include his sister, Lori Hicks and her husband, Darren of Cowgill; niece, Braya Qualman and her husband, Dan of Lawson; niece, Brenna Newsome of Excelsior Springs; nephew, Brett Hicks of Cowgill; niece, Ambrielle Hennager and her husband, Andrew of Wood Heights; great nieces and nephews, Liam, Cai, Ryla, Silas and Freya. He affectionately referred to his nieces and nephews as “Monkeys”.  Cousins and other extended family members also survive.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Donor's Choice or the Special Olympics in care of the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, July 1st, 2021 at Cowgill Cemetery, southeast of Cowgill. There is no scheduled family visitation.
