Mona (McKown) Eckelberry - age 79 of Jamesport, MO passed away Sunday night, December 20th, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Mona was born on May 31st, 1941 in Altamont, MO the daughter of Norman Virgil and Etta Pauline (Everman) McKown. She grew up in Jamesport and was a 1959 graduate of Jamesport High School. On November 15th, 1966 she was united in marriage to J.L. Eckelberry in Miami, OK. Early in their marriage Mona worked as a Beautician. Mona and J.L owned and operated Eckelberry Service in Jamesport. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lock Springs, MO and served as the President of the Tri-County School Board of Education. She was also a member of Single Sisters. Mona was a very independent woman. She loved her children, grandchildren, and her animals, especially her best furry friend, Ginger. Mona was an excellent wood carver. She carved everything from Santa Claus, angels, people, dolls, and horses. Mona was an amazing artist. She enjoyed gardening, canning and antiques. Mona also loved to cook and would often take food to the elderly that could not leave their home. She will be dearly missed.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents and husband, J.L. Survivors include: daughter, Melody (Michael) Duckworth of Kearney; son, Craig (Cynthia) Owen of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Dustin (Angie) Owen of Jamesport, Brittney (Grant) Murphy of Plattsburg, Afton Owen of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren, Byran and Lexi Wyant, Brock and Conor Murphy; great-great grandchildren, Braelynn and Birklee Wyant; sister, Brenda Ranes of Jamesport; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jamesport First Responders or the Jamesport Junior Livestock Show in care of the funeral home. Graveside service: 2 PM, Sunday, December 27th, 2020, Jamesport Masonic Cemetery, Jamesport, MO. There is no scheduled visitation. Friends may call from 9 AM to 1 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
