Mary Jewell (Mohler) Sullenger - age 78 of Gallatin, MO passed away Monday morning, December 15, 2025 at North Kansas City Health in North Kansas City, Missouri. Mary was born on November 23, 1947, the daughter of John and Edna (Bowles) Mohler in Kansas City, MO. She grew up in Braymer and was a 1965 graduate of Braymer High School. Mary proudly graduated from William Jewell College in 1969, with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She started her teaching career in Gallatin in 1969, where she met John Sullenger. They were married on June 18, 1972, at the First Baptist Church in Braymer. She taught many levels of education at several different schools in Northwest Missouri. Mary found her niche teaching special needs kids and adults. She had a very strong faith in Christ, serving on different church committees, organizing church activities and participating in the church choir. Mary loved listening to music and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority during college and PEO in her later life. Mary loved her family and dogs deeply. She especially enjoyed supporting her daughters and grandkids in their different activities. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband John Sullenger of Gallatin, MO; daughters, Amy Heldenbrand (Travis) of Gallatin, MO and Kara Sullenger of Liberty, MO; and grandchildren, Paige and Liam Heldenbrand and Lucas and Mila Gutierrez-Sullenger. Other extended family members and friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Active Aging Resource Center or Special Olympics Missouri in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Mary's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 22, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 21, 2025 also at the funeral home. Friends may call after noon on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin. Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin (660) 663-2117.
