Mary Elaine (Pack) Fickess Obituary

Mary Elaine (Pack) Fickess - age 75 of Cowgill, MO passed away peacefully Thursday evening, January 16, 2025, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Her last breath on earth was met with her first breath in heaven. Mary was born on June 29, 1949, the daughter of James Alfred and Gladys Mary (Burgess) Pack in Porum, OK. She was a 1967 graduate of William Chrisman High School. Mary married David Paul Fickess on June 2nd, 1967 in Independence, MO. They made their first home near Polo for a short time before moving to New Boston, MO where they operated a dairy farm for many years and raised 4 children. They later moved back to Polo, where they remained. Mary was a homemaker and helped with all aspects of the farm. She also raised pugs for 30 years. Mary and David enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church of Lathrop. Mary raised a large garden, preserving everything and preparing most all family meals entirely “from the farm." She was an excellent seamstress and cook, as well as an avid reader. Her family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren. Before succumbing to Dementia, Mary is most remembered by her grandchildren for her bubbly spirit and actively running and playing games with all of them. Mary enjoyed the outdoors and making her house a home for everyone. She was a very kind and patient person with a quick wit and great sense of humor. Mary’s sweet smile and calm, gentle spirit will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tommy Pack; infant sister, Linda Pack, and several extended family members. She is survived by her husband of over 57 years, David of the home; children: Beth Green (David) of Boonville, MO and their children, Katherine Fortenberry (Tyler), D. L. Green (Jessie), Nathan Green, Alondra Green, Dwight Green, Luis Green; Christal Hicks (Jason) of Polo, MO and their children Malorie Rood, Megan Zwygart, Kylar Hicks; Davey Fickess (Lorie) of Polo, MO and their children Monica Jenkins (Doug), Emily Olson (Jacob), Marisa Fickess, Matthew Fickess; Ellen Schuster (Ben) of Excelsior Springs, MO and their children Brynn Martin, Brylee Martin, Briggs Martin, Baylor Martin, Audrey Schuster, Carter Schuster, and Karli Schuster. Six great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Markley (Larry) of Blue Springs, MO and Patsy Friends (Germane) of Galt, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive.
