Martha Lois Yost

Martha Lois Yost - age 98 of Cameron, MO, formerly of Gallatin, MO passed away Sunday afternoon, February 5th, 2023, at the Cameron Veterans Home in Cameron. Lois was born on February 25th, 1924, the daughter of William Oren and Bertha Francis (Knowlton) Shippen in Jewel City, KS. She grew up in rural Kansas and Nebraska and was a 1941 graduate of Red Cloud High School in Red Cloud, NE. Lois obtained a teaching certificate and taught in country schools in Nebraska and Iowa before enlisting in the United States Navy. In the US Navy she served as a Navy Airforce gunnery instructor stationed in Pensacola, FL, until her honorable discharge in April of 1946. She married W. Glenn Yost on November 9th, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Gallatin, MO. In addition to being a bookkeeper for her husband at Yost Chevrolet Dealership, Lois was an expert at needlework. She did everything from quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, and needle point. Lois made coats and clothes for her grandchildren. She also made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, Care Bears, and Cabbage Patch dolls. Lois loved to garden, can vegetables, camp, fish, bowl and play pitch with family and bingo at the senior center. She was quiet, reserved and independent. Martha will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, W. Glenn Yost; siblings, Oren Shippen, George Shippen, and Joyce Coxen. She is survived by her children, William O. Yost (Pat) of Hamilton, MO, Glenda Kimberlin of Springfield, MO, and Marlene Amick (Clem) of Houston, MO; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and other extended family members also survive. 
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Gallatin United Methodist Church or the Active Aging Resource Center in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Gallatin United Methodist Church in Gallatin, MO.  The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery in Hamilton, MO.
