Lois Sumpter

Lois Sumpter, age 97 of Higginsville, MO and formerly a lifelong resident of Turney, MO passed away Tuesday morning, October 6th, 2020 at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville. Lois was born on May 28th, 1923 the daughter of Clyde N. and Beulah May (Moody) Christopher in Turney, MO. She was a graduate of Turney High School. On July 19th, 1945 she was united in marriage to Harold Sumpter in Turney.  Lois then obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.  She began her career at a rural country school, teaching all eight grades. Lois then taught elementary for the Holt and Lathrop school districts.  She was a member of the Lathrop Assembly of God Church for many years.  Lois loved playing the piano and organ.  She was a Godly woman and cared for others before herself.  Lois enjoyed having family and friends over to her home and providing them with dessert.  She will be dearly missed.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sisters, Zola Vanderau and Margaret Hutton; great grandson, Max Gordon. Survivors include: daughter, Hilah Gordon of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Pam (Mike) Spidle of Columbia; grandchildren: Kanu (Becky) Gordon of Lansing, KS; Karac (Tina) Gordon of Overland Park, KS; Karissa (Jason) Slinkard of Alabama; Kale (Annie) Spidle of Lathrop; great grandchildren: Tyler, Levi, Zach, Natalie,  Lance, Lotus, JJ, Ben, Asa, Truett, Thorin, Xander, Zoe, AnaClaire, Liam, and Jovi; sister, Clyda Stark of Kansas City, MO; nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.    

Memorial contributions are suggested to Turney Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Funeral service: 2 PM, next Saturday, October 17th, 2020, Lathrop Assembly of God Church, Lathrop, MO. Visitation: one-hour prior to the service at the church (1 PM). Friends may call 11 AM to 5 PM, Friday (10/16) at the funeral home. Burial: Turney Cemetery.
