Dan was born on August 12th, 1947 the son of W.L. and Helen (Ballew) Misel in Excelsior Springs, MO.  He grew up on the family farm just south of Cowgill and graduated from Polo High School in 1965. After high school Dan started working at Armco Steel in Kansas City, MO where he remained for 35 years. He served in the United States Airforce from April 1966 until his honorable discharge in February 1970, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.  On December 20th, 1968 he was united in marriage to Berniece Broughton at the Cowgill United Methodist Church.  Dan was a member of the Cowgill Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Elk Foundation, the Missouri Trap Shooter Association, the Braymer United Methodist Church and the MTA Gun Club in Smithville.  Dan had a passion for hunting, repairing/building guns, trap shooting, the outdoors and building computers. He was outspoken and never afraid to share his thoughts. Dan was funny and an all-around “good guy”.  After retiring from GST (Armco) he was a 911 dispatcher for the Caldwell and Clinton county sheriff’s departments and he also worked for Rood Machine and Engineering in Polo.  Dan also owned and operated Dan’s Gun Repair from his home for 40 years, which he enjoyed immensely.  He was a good husband and father and he loved his family.
