Lawrence Souders - age 87 of Jamesport, MO passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, June 9th, 2021 at his home surrounded by loving family. Lawrence was born on March 8th, 1934 the son of Andy and Blanche (Wright) Souders in Altamont, MO. He grew up in Altamont and attended school there. On November 23rd, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou McCorkle in Jamesport, where they made their home, after living a few years in Kansas City. Lawrence worked in concrete construction and grain bin erection. He was a prankster and storyteller. He could sit on the porch and tell stories all day. Lawrence always had a cup of coffee and enjoyed playing pitch and poker. He smoked a corncob pipe and liked to drive around. Lawrence was always holding someone’s hand and squeezing it. He loved his children, grandchildren and kids that were not even his. Lawrence was a grandpa to a lot of kids. Lawrence was baptized in the Baptist faith. He will be dearly missed.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary Lou. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Souders and siblings, Coleen, Garland, Everett, Emmitt, Edna and Lucille. Survivors include daughter, Carolyn Huskey of Jamesport; son, Danny Souders of Jamesport; sister, Doris Gibson of Trenton; 6 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Ayr Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation is scheduled for 1 hr. prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may call after 9 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial to follow the services at Mt. Ayr Cemetery, south of Altamont, MO.
