Larry E. Young - age 73 of Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday evening, September 29, 2024, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City. Larry was born on December 21, 1950, the son of Billie and Viola (Bunch) Young in Green City, MO. He grew up on a farm in rural Green City and attended Green City High School. Larry served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Jackie Traywick and she preceded him in death. He married Sandra Frederick Schnoebelen on October 20th, 2007, in Liberty, MO. Larry worked at Hallmark and Johnson Food Processing Equipment as a maintenance engineer. Larry and Sandy retired to Polo, where they were active in the community and Larry operated Young's Home Repair. He was a member of the Polo Christian Church, where he served on the church board. He was a member of the Polo American Legion Post #557, and a past master of Polo Masonic Lodge # 232. Larry always had to be doing something, particularly outside or in his shop. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandkids. He had patience to teach, whether it was grandchildren to fish or young men carpentry skills. Larry was a kind man. He loved working with his hands. He loved old westerns. Larry was supportive of his grandchildren and their activities. He also liked restoring old tractors, trucks and furniture. Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Billie; stepmother, Carol and wife, Jackie Young. He is survived by his wife, Sandy of the home; children, Keli Young (Bill Slaney) of Hedrick, IA, Robyn Emel (Jason) of Bible Grove, MO, Tabbatha Sanstra of Kansas City, MO, Todd Schnoebelen (Amy) of Kansas City, MO, and Erin Tolin (Mike) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Chelsea Burkhiser (Arabelle Reed) of Kirksville, MO, Kyler Burkhiser of Denver, CO, Hannah Sanstra (Clayton) of Kansas City, MO, Miles Gerleman of Lockridge, IA, Hunter Carter of Columbia, MO, Alex Schnoebelen of Kansas City, MO, Emily Gerleman of Larned, KS, Cooper Tolin of Kansas City, MO, Bailey Schnoebelen of Kansas City, MO, and Dylan Schnoebelen of Kansas City, MO; four great-grandchildren; his mother, Viola Heiner of Memphis, MO; and siblings, Gary Young (Mary) of Memphis, MO, Barbara Lewis (Glen Pulliam) of New Canton, IL, Vikki Yesser (Paul) of Bend, OR, and Jonna Michael of Green City, MO; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Legion Post #557 in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Larry's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Polo. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may call after 9 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
