Kevin Thornton

Kevin Alan Thornton - age 63 of Lathrop, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, February 22, 2022, at Liberty Hospital. Kevin was born on September 3, 1958, the son of Glenn and Maida June (Evans) Thornton in Iowa City, IA. He grew up in Sedalia, Missouri and lived most of his adult life in Excelsior Springs and Lathrop, Missouri. He was married to Pam Swoboda (Halberstadt) of Excelsior Springs, MO for 12 years and together they had two children. Kevin was a Christian man and most recently attended services at Lathrop First Assembly of God.

Kevin never seemed to know a stranger. He had a huge heart,and was caring and compassionate toward everyone he met. He lent a helping hand to so many people, without hesitation and without any expectations of anything in return. Kevin will be remembered for his life-long love of fishing, mushroom hunting, and in his younger adult years playing softball and shooting darts. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Maida June Thornton; sisters Carol Madorin and Glenda Cole; stepdad Bill Morris, and grandson Brycen. He is survived by his son, Jason Thornton (Nicki Franklin) of Kansas City, MO and daughter, Melissa Thornton (Christopher Costello) of Lathrop, MO; grandchildren, Kaytlen, Hayden, Aryanna, Zayne, Luke, and Malia; stepmom, Mary Morris; brothers, Don Thornton (Jan) of Sedalia, MO, Dennis Thornton (Karen) of Sedalia, MO, Randall Thornton of Sedalia, MO, and Rick Grimes (Terri) of Ottumwa, IA; sisters Judith Conklin of Lawson, MO, and Rhonda Ahern (Nate) of Sedalia, MO. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive. 
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family to help with final expenses. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Lathrop First Assembly of God in Lathrop, MO.  The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church. The family asks that you come dressed in attire that suits you and makes you comfortable, no formal dress required.
