Joseph "Jack" Dowell Obituary

Joseph "Jack" Dowell, age 88 , Gallatin, MO departed this life April 4, 2020 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center.  Jack was born on October 30, 1931, the only child of Earl and Mae(Kirby) Dowell.  He was raised on the farm south of Gallatin and graduated from the Gallatin High School in 1949.  Jack married Sarah (Worley) Dowell on March 11,1950 . They later divorced.  Jack farmed his whole life. Jack was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He also drove a mail route, a school bus and worked on heavy road construction.  Jack served on the Sheridan Township Board for many years and was a Republican Committeeman for the township.  Jack was a member of the First Christian Church of Gallatin. He also served as the Daviess County Presiding Commissioner.  His joy later in life was his grandkids.  Jack was one to not miss an event if his grandkids were involved.  He was a Gallatin Bulldog Fan, watching his kids and then grandkids.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Jack Allen Dowell. Jack is survived by his son, J.D. (Lisa) Dowell and daughter Vera (Bill) Nelson both of Gallatin. Grandchildren: Kate (J) Chrisman, Trent Dowell, Stefanie Dowell, Aubrey Nelson, Annie Nelson and Ashley (Alex) Foster.  Great Grandchildren: Lane Dowell, Tye Dowell, Case Chrisman, Cole Chrisman and Lyla Foster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Active Aging Resource Center, in care of the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
