Joseph Antione Guerriero Obituary

 Joseph Antoine Guerriero - age 78 of Blue Springs, MO passed away Wednesday evening, February 14, 2024, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence. Joe was born on February 28, 1945, the son of Gerard and Louise (Stabile) Guerriero in Montreal, Quebec. He grew up in Montreal and graduated from Marymount High School. Joe was raised in the Catholic faith. Following high school, he obtained a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Concordia University, Loyola Campus and then a master's degree from Queen's University. Joe loved hockey and was a goalie in the Old Timers League in Montreal. He was a huge fan of the the Montreal Canadiens (also known as the Habs). He married Linda Wright on May 25th, 1984, at Unitarian Church in Montreal. They had met at a mathematics conference in San Diego, CA. Joe was a mathematics instructor, department head and dean at Dawson College in Montreal. The Guerriero family returned to Linda's hometown of Braymer in 2000 and Joe began teaching high school math at Polo High School, retiring in 2010. Following retirement, Joe substitute taught for several local schools. During his career as an educator, he made a tremendous impact on his students; he loved teaching and his students.  Joe was a man of deep faith and enjoyed attending Gospel Christian Center in Cowgill. In retirement Joe and Linda enjoyed traveling and spending time in Utah and Arizona. Joe also watched and attended any hockey game he could find! He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend to many. Joe was an intelligent and compassionate man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rose Guerriero. He is survived by his wife, Linda of the home; children, Katarina Keller (James) of Blue Springs, MO and Anthony Guerriero (Lindsey) of Shawnee, KS; five grandchildren, Norah, Miles, Lenny, Kazen, and Rivaye; sister, Monique Vietri of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive. 
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Truman Heartland Community Foundation for the Centerpoint Medical Center Medical Staff Scholarship in care of the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Polo.  The family will gather with friends one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A meal will follow at Polo Community Church.  Some of Joe's ashes will be placed in Braymer and some returned home to Canada.
