John W. Griffin- age 81 of Coffey, MO passed away on Thursday night, February 13, 2025, at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin, Missouri. John was born on March 28, 1943, the son of Owen Dale and Irma Mildred (Dixson) Griffin in Trenton, MO. Throughout his life he was known as John, J.W. and Jay. He was a 1961 graduate of Gilman City High School. John married Vicki Trump on June 26th 1966, at the Grundy Center Church in Grundy County, MO. He was a member of the Highway Christian Church and sponsored and supported several people through AA. John was a jack of all trades and master of several. He worked for the Highway Department in St. Joe, Trenton Foods, raised quarter horses, drove a semi, operated the road grader for townships around Coffey and he was a carpenter. John and Vicki owned Griffin's Country Cafe and ran the restaurant inside Landmark Manufacturing. John also served as the mayor of the Village of Coffey. His true passion in life was his horses. John enjoyed taking care of the horses and competing in rodeos, where he earned several awards. John was a people person, developing relationships wherever he went. He was able to strike up a conversation with anyone. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Griffin; and nephew, Brock Griffin; father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Marjorie Trump; brother-in-laws, Ronald Trump and Mike Trump. He is survived by his wife Vicki Griffin of the home; children, Cherri Griffin of Raytown, MO, Brenda Willis (Brad) of Munford, TN, John Perry Griffin of Minneapolis, KS, and Casey Toney (Jesse) of Gallatin, MO; grandchildren, Caleb Cole (Trisha) of Cameron, MO, Levi Cole of Overland Park, KS, Jacob Cole of Kansas City, MO, Devan DesChamp (Heather) of Munford, TN, Mavrik Griffin of Minneapolis, KS, Maleah Griffin of Minneapolis, KS, Mikody Griffin of Minneapolis, KS, Tatum Griffin (Conner) of Cameron, MO, Will Rogers of Gallatin, MO, Corbin Toney (Breanna) of Gallatin, MO, and Cidnee Toney of Gallatin, MO; and five great-grandchildren, Hudson, Henslee, Brixton, Theo, and Beckett; sister-in-laws, Gwen Trump of Des Moines, IA and Debra (Terry) Hamilton of Gallatin, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and many friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Tunnel to Towers or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating John's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Saturday, at the funeral home. Friends may call after noon Saturday at the funeral home.
