Joan Carol Devers

Joan Carol Devers - age 87 of Lathrop, MO passed away on Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025 in Weston, MO. Joan was born on August 21, 1937, the daughter of Dean and Trixie (Collie) Shields in Harrisburg, MO. She married the love of her life, David Devers, on August 25th, 1955, in Moberly, MO. Joan was a long time member of the Church of the Nazarene, attending several different congregations. She retired from Montgomery Ward after 31 years where she worked as a Return Department Supervisor for several years. In her free time Joan enjoyed going square dancing and bowling, in which she carried a 200 average. She also had a creative side and spent time sewing, crocheting and upholstering. Joan had a straightforward personality, and would tell you what you needed to hear, but not always what you wanted to hear. Family was very important to Joan, who was referred to as The Monarch of her family. She had a heart warming smile that always made you feel loved. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Ray Devers; and  brothers, Daryl Shields and another brother who passed away at a young age. She is survived by her devoted husband David Devers of the home; son, Rick Devers (Nora) of Weston, MO; grandchildren, Megan Hendrix (Beau) of Weston, MO and Michael Ray Devers II of Weston, MO; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Connor Hendrix of Weston, MO. Other extended family and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in care of the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Monday, August 4th, 2025 at Stith Funeral Home (Lathrop). A private family graveside will be held at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence.
