Joan Galpin - age 93 of Lee's Summit, MO passed away into the presence of the Lord Jesus Sunday morning, June 2, 2024, at her daughter's home in Olathe, KS. Joan was born on September 1, 1930, the daughter of H. Roy and Kathryn (Stout) Galpin in Gallatin, MO. She grew up in Kansas City and was a 1947 graduate of Central High School. Joan retired from Southwestern Bell as a frame attendant after over 30 years of service. She had an unquenchable positivity and optimism; she enjoyed the finer things in life, but was down to earth. She loved nature and hiking. Her humor was infectious and she had a lioness heart. Joan had a beautiful voice and sang in several operas. Joan was also a food aficionado. She had a warm spirit and never knew a stranger. Her children were perfect in her eyes. Joan will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Pettegrew, Geraldine Brown, and Nancy Kirk. She is survived by her children, Roy Vance (Elizama) of Lee's Summit, MO, Elizabeth Elliott (Charles) of Lee's Summit, MO, Christa Hernandez (Fred) of Olathe, KS, and Ivan Vance of Olathe, KS; fifteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren; other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to FEBC.org (Far East Broadcasting) in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Joan's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Crest Bible Church. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church.
