Jim Gerber - age 78 of Lathrop, MO passed away Wednesday morning, June 23rd, 2021 at his home. Jim was born on October 12th, 1942 the son of Reed and Lois (Colin) Gerber in St. Louis, MO. He grew up in Rockford, IL and was a 1961 graduate of Rockford High School. Jim served in the United States Army Reserves. On January 7th, 1967 he was united in marriage to Barbara Thomas at Assumption Catholic Church in Herculaneum, MO. They lived in Festus, MO, Parkville, MO, Texas, and Antonia, MO until permanently settling in Lathrop in 1983. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #467 and served as a volunteer fire fighter, first responder and helped with the annual fireworks display for the Lathrop Fire Department, for a few years. He worked for AT&T as a supervisor for 36 years before retiring in 1998. After retirement, Jim worked for the Clinton County Sheriff’s office, writing reports and sometimes adding his humor. He also worked for Clinton County Road and Bridge and was a farmhand. Jim enjoyed driving grain trucks, dump trucks and farming. He had a sense of humor and was quite a storyteller. Jim was a published writer in hunting magazines. He was never afraid to express his opinion. Jim enjoyed hunting of all kinds, fishing and most recently, welding. Jim will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; son, Tom (Nicky) Gerber of Lewes, England; son, Travis (Jill) Gerber of Kearney; sister, Andrea Pripps of Lindstrom, MN; brother, John (Debra) Gerber of Cary, IL; grandchildren: Mattison, Reece and Mia; nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Lathrop American Legion Post #467 in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, June 28th, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop. There is no scheduled family visitation. Friends may come and leave condolences from 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial to follow the services at Lathrop Cemetery in Lathrop, MO.
