Janet Wyvonne Adkison, 83, of Hamilton, Mo., passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2026, at Mosaic Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Janet was born on August 14, 1942, the daughter of Steve Layton and Florence Evalee Marie (Mason) Adkison in Cameron, Mo. She grew up in Lathrop and graduated from Lathrop High School in 1960. In the fall of 1960, she joined the Women's Army Corp and served until 1963. Janet worked for Cook Paint and retired from Cornett Windows. Janet loved reading, watching movies and playing cards. She was a strong-willed and independent woman.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Williams; half-brother, Darrel Collins; and her nephew, Stephen David Prudden. She is survived by two siblings, Peggy Dolan (John) of Hamilton, Mo., and Dwight Adkison of Lathrop, Mo., along with several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Prairie Ridge Church west of Polo. There is no scheduled visitation. Burial will follow at Prairie Ridge Cemetery.
