Herbert "Herb" E. Carpenter - age 96 of Gallatin, MO passed away Wednesday night surrounded by his family, November 20, 2024, at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin, Missouri. Herb was born on November 4, 1928, the son of Guy and Alice (Brooks) Carpenter in Lock Springs, MO. He grew up in and was a graduate of Lock Springs High School. He married Dolores Jeanette "Jeanie" Macy on October 11th, 1952, in Gallatin. He was baptized in 1954 and became a member of the Gallatin First Christian Church. Herb was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was a lifelong farmer; enjoying the good days and fixing things with duct tape and bailing wire on the bad days. Herb was a patient and quiet man that never lost his temper. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, going to auctions, collecting antique tools and spending time with grandchildren. He also enjoyed teaching youth how to work on the farm. Herb will be dearly missed.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores (Jeanie); an infant son, Guy Lewis Carpenter; siblings: Manford Carpenter, Winnie Agey, Mabel Morrill, and Boyd Carpenter. He is survived by his children: Dennis Carpenter (Deb) of Gowrie, IA, Bert Carpenter (Sherry) of Gallatin, MO, and Kelley Joy of Kearney, MO; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Gallatin First Christian Church in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Herb's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Gallatin First Christian Church. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin.
