Grace Jeanett (Nickell) Garton - age 89, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Monday morning, November 11, 2024, at her home. Grace was born on May 22, 1935, in Sumner, MO, she was the daughter of Carl Leroy and Vera Louella (Moder) Nickell. Jeanett was a graduate of Northwestern High School, class of 1953. She married Deloris Dean Garton, June 20, 1954, at the Rothville Baptist Church. They lived in Honolulu, HI, where Deloris was stationed in the service and then returned to Kansas City. In 1968, they moved to Excelsior Springs. She had been a resident of Excelsior Springs before moving to Garden Village in Kansas City. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed being a part of the Excelsior Springs Garden Club. Jeanett also enjoyed attending local country music shows. Jeanett also enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles and word searches. She loved her family, attended Northwest Bearcat games and watching the Kansas City Royals.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Deloris Dean Garton; son-in-law, Kevin King; brothers, Bill Nickell and brother-in-laws, Lamar Carpenter, and Eugene Garton. She is survived by her children, Delores King of Excelsior Springs, MO and Paul Garton (Sharon) of Polo, MO; grandchildren, Jason Estep (Teresa) of Excelsior Springs, MO, Matthew Estep (Karen) of Kansas City, MO, Clay Garton (Moira Hays) of Polo, MO, Connor Garton (Mattie Curp) of Polo, MO, and Logan Garton of Polo, MO; great-grandchildren, Dorothy and Hugo; and sister, Nina Mae Carpenter of Norborne, MO; other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Shriners Children's in care of the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 15, 2024, at Masonic Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Polo.
