George J. Vanderflute, age 89 of Jamesport, MO passed away Thursday morning, October 1, 2020 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, MO. He was born on January 6, 1931 the son of George and Anna (Ott) Vanderflute in Lamoni, IA. He grew up in Decatur County, Iowa and later attended Terre Haute Country School. George worked as a farmhand until he was 18 years old. He worked for Wright Tree Service for over 20 years. On January 26, 1985 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Gray. Together George and Myrtle operated G & M Gas Service Station outside of Jamesport on 6 HWY. They lived their entire married life in Jamesport. George was a quiet and good citizen to his community and was helpful to family and friends. George enjoyed mowing and people. He enjoyed watching NASCAR on Sundays while Myrtle cheered on her Chiefs! They were best friends until the end. He will be dearly missed.
George was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Vanderflute; 4 brothers, William Vanderflute; James Vanderflute; Richard Vanderflute; Marion Vanderflute; 2 sisters, Darlene Benning; and, Donna Melson. Survivors include: wife, Myrtle of the home; daughter, Diana (Victor) Shrock of Berlin, WI; sister, Doloras Mart of Omaha, NE; special adopted daughters, Shelly Howland of Jamesport and Amy Kurtz of Trenton; brother-in-law, Rex Gray of Trenton; sister-in-law, Loretta Gray of Trenton; 4 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jamesport First Responders in care of the funeral home. Private family services will be held.
