Ernie L. Warren - age 84, of Holt, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024. Born on June 22, 1940, the son of David Burns and Jewell Leota (Stoops) Warren in Kearney, MO. He grew up in Kearney and Excelsior Springs and attended Kearney schools. On December 9, 1968, Ernie married the love of his life, Verba Lee Pratt, in Nowata, Oklahoma. Their union was one of deep love and companionship, lasting over 55 years. Ernie dedicated 32 years as a truck driver for Farmland Industries and Cenex Harvest States. A man of faith, Ernie was a devoted member of Old Union Church in rural Lawson, where he served as a trustee and contributed his time and talents in various ways. He was especially beloved by the congregation's children, including Kim Malaj, who was inspired to author a book about him and his wife titled "Ernie Meets Figgy."
Ernie was known for his boundless energy and zest for life. He had a passion for woodworking and was a longtime participant at the Lathrop Antique Fairgrounds, where he shared his craftsmanship with others. His many hobbies included taking part in tractor cruises, riding his Harley, and camping. But above all, Ernie cherished his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a hand, and his generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, David Burns Warren and Jewell Leota Young, as well as siblings David Warren, Juanita Filley, and Evelyn Clifford. He is survived by his beloved wife, Verba, of the home; children, Terry Lee Warren (Andra) of Smithville, MO, Kimberly Kelley (Charles) of Raleigh, NC, and Nick Warren (Tracy) of Platte City, MO; six grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, Patricia Warren of Puyallup, WA, Stephanie Doyle of Lake in the Hills, IL, Samantha Eidson of Richmond, MO, Jesse Warren of Puyallup, WA, Zachary Murphy of Hubert, NC, and Sabrina Warren of Platte City, MO; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Ruby; and brother, Larry Warren of Excelsior Springs, MO; other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Old Union Church in the care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Ernie's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 23, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop.
