Eddeania Smith

Eddeania Benz Smith - age 71 of Altamont, MO passed away Friday night, June 25th, 2021 at her home. Eddeania was born on December 10th, 1949 the daughter of Edwin Walter and Melba (Talley) Benz in Aurora, MO.  She was a graduate of Aurora High School.  In learning of her passing, one of her High School Teachers, Barbara Woods, had this to say of her:  “I know teachers aren’t supposed to have pets, but Eddeania was such a special student to me - quiet, intelligent, pleasant, and compassionate.  I couldn’t help thinking of her as a friend – almost family."  On December 3rd, 1971 she was united in marriage to Dwight Smith at the LDS Temple in Manti, UT.  Eddeania and Dwight made their home in several places throughout the United States before settling in Marionville, MO and then in Altamont about 4 years ago.  She was a homemaker and very busy in Church activities.  Eddeania was currently a member of the Spring Hill Ward of the LDS Church in Gallatin.  She loved reading and was a very kind hearted person.  Once Eddeania was your friend, she was your friend for life.  She will be dearly missed.

Eddeania was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Walter and Melba Talley Benz, her grandparents, Henderson and Mabel Talley; uncle, Hubert and aunt, Beatrice Glidewell.  Survivors include her husband, Dwight of their home; brother, Malford (Becky) Benz of South Dakota; brother, Larry (Cheryl) Benz of Aurora, MO; brother, Jan (Kristal) Benz of Florida.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive.

Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, July 9th, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 211 Ash Street in Gallatin, MO.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 PM, the evening prior (Thursday, July 8th) at Stith Funeral Home at 1329 W. Grand St in Gallatin.  Burial to follow at Civil Bend Christian Cemetery near Pattonsburg, MO.  Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin.
