Donald Wayne Baker Obituary

 

Donald Wayne Baker - age 70 of Jameson, MO passed away Wednesday morning, March 4th, 2020 at his home.  Donald was born on November 20,1949 to Albert and Maudie (Traister) Baker in Trenton, MO.  .  He was the youngest of 5 boys.  Donald attended school and graduated from Trenton High School in 1968.  He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 and did a tour in Vietnam.  Donald married Patty Waterbury in Jameson, MO on August 31, 1969.  They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2019.  To this union three children were born; Chris, Doug and Kerri.

Donald worked at lumber yards in the area as well as Moorman Manufacturing Company and finally at Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron for 25 years before his retirement in 2013.

Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He loved watching all his grandkids play in various sports and other activities.  He was their biggest fan and loved cheering them on.

Donald was saved in Trenton, MO on April 26, 1973.  He currently attended Liberty Baptist Church in Trenton and loved telling everyone about Christ and his salvation.  He had a heart transplant in 1990 and told everyone he then had three birthdays.  First from his mother, second being born of the Holy Spirit and third from getting his transplant.  He loved all his doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s and considered them as family.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Robert and Glenn Baker and mother and father-in-law, Delbert and Nellie Waterbury.  He is survived by his wife, Patty of the home; son, Chris Baker (Angie) of Gallatin; son, Doug Baker of Gallatin; daughter, Kerri Smith (Toby) of Jameson; nine grandchildren, Celsie Morrow (Lantz), Caragan Baker, Calen Baker, Nathan Baker, Peyton Baker, Rhyker Baker, Bryce Smith, Jesse Smith, Kannon Smith; two brothers, Harold Baker (Doris) of Trenton and James Baker (Faith) of Trenton; one brother-in-law Mike Waterbury of Gallatin and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mid America Heart Institute or Liberty Baptist Church building fund, in care of the funeral home. Funeral service: 2 PM, Saturday, March 7th, 2020, Stith Funeral Home, Gallatin. Visitation: one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial with full military honors to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin. Friends may call after 11 AM Friday at the funeral home.
