Obituary

Donald "Don" Otto Nees - age 90 of Higginsville, MO passed away Thursday morning, June 9, 2022, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Don". Don was born on April 24, 1932, the son of Martin E. and Caroline Louise (Schaeffer) Nees in Denver, CO. He was a 1950 graduate of Wyandotte High School. He attended community college in Tulsa and furthered his education in later years at William Jewell College in Liberty. He married Inez Womack on September 18th, 1954, in Charleston, AR at the First Baptist Church. He worked for Western Auto for 37 years in various capacities. Don was a dedicated member of Holy Cross Lutheran in Kansas City where he coordinated the prayer chain; Don was a prayer warrior, always praying for people. He later became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville. Don was a man of faith, loving husband and father; he was a kind and gentle man.  Don was passionate, social, and a people person; he would give his shirt off his back for anyone.   Don was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed cross-stitch. He was passionate about Space and wanted to work for NASA. Don also was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. He enjoyed eating at McDonald's and drinking coffee. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. 


He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Inez, daughter, Kathy Nees; grandson, Nicholas Goodner; great-grandson, Owen Nees; and siblings, Albert Nees and Ruth Niermann. He is survived by three children, Gregory Nees (Judy) of Richmond, MO, Elaine Goodner of Richmond, MO, and Ellen Miller of Plano, TX;  grandchildren, Lydia Baker (Brett) of Belton, MO, Corey Nees (Annaleigh) of Loranger, LA, Patrick Landau (Elizabeth) of Mission, KS, Timothy Goodner (Rachel) of Tampa, FL, Daniel Goodner (Kyneisha) of Kansas City, MO, Melissa Cavalli (Rick) of Easton, MA, and Meghan Koch (Andrew) of Frisco, TX; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Walter Nees of Lakewood, CO; nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran School in Higginsville in care of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville.  The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial at a later date at Cowgill Cemetery.
