David Lee Young

David Lee Young - age 78 of rural Lathrop, MO passed away Saturday morning, December 14, 2024, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. David was born on December 11, 1946, the son of Willis Doyle and Viriginia Frances (Bell) Young in Harrison, AR. He grew up in Western Grove, Arkansas and was a 1965 graduate of Valley Springs High School. He married Barbara Leona Rhodes on  November 27th, 1965, in Greenville, SC. They moved to  Lathrop in the early 1970's and raised their family. David worked for Armco Steel and Ford Motor Company.  David and Barbara moved to the farm in rural Lathrop 17 years ago. David liked to  hunt and fish. He raised quail, chuckers, pheasants and bird dogs. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sports activities. David was a KU basketball fan. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. 

David was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Barbara of the home; children, Kim Smith (Steve) of Excelsior Springs, MO and Geoffrey Young (Carolyn) of Easton, KS; grandchildren, Alesia Young of Lathrop, MO, Aireal Humphrey (Shelton) of Calhan, CO, Adrianna Smith of Independence, MO, Shayla Smith (Dillon Prokos) of Stewartsville, MO,  Aaron Smith of Excelsior Springs, MO, Stephanie, Jacquline, and Damien; great-grandchildren, Beau, Kloey, Kaiden, Ruxton, Brooklynn, Audrey and Chloe; brother-in-laws, Marvin Rhodes (Elmond) of Parachute, CO and Kenneth Rhodes of Arvada, CO;  Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Association in care of the funeral home. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2 pm to 5 PM Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at the Lathrop Antique Show Grounds in Lathrop.  Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Polo (660) 354-2214.
