David D. Tackett Obituary

David D. Tackett, 59, of Cameron, Missouri, formerly Rayville, Missouri clocked out for the last time on the morning of Friday, May 2, 2025, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty Missouri. Born December 1, 1965, in Kingman, Arizona, to Gerald Duane and Linda (Thurman) Tackett. David lived a life fueled by grit, mischief, and more than a few power tools. He was educated in Lawson Missouri and married the love of his life, Christi Fox, on April 24, 1987, in Lexington, Missouri. Together over 38 years they built a life full of love, laughter, and enough stories to last several lifetimes.

David was the definition of a hands-on man. He didn’t just do things—he fixed them, built them, painted them, welded them, restored them, and occasionally made them run better than they had any right to. He owned NBS Contracting, and served as Maintenance Director for a couple local schools over the years and moonlighted as a machinist, fabricator, and auto body artist. At one point, he even painted helicopters. Why? Because he could.

Never one to be pigeonholed, David also ran a local chicken farm until they closed in Rayville, where he found joy in the rhythm of rural life and raising chickens (and, as his family might say, a little bit of hell too). His love for looking at flowers was second only to his deep affection for his grandchildren, who brought endless smiles and kept his heart full.

David was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend,  a fixer of all things, and an unapologetically colorful character. He worked hard every day of his life and his biggest accomplishment was teaching his kids everything he knew. David is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife, Christi; his children, Brittany Sander (Derrick) of Concordia, Christopher Tackett of Rayville, and Adrian Woods (Nathan) of Cameron; and his beloved grandchildren: Maddox Thorns, Kallista Boone, Kiley Tackett, Colten Sander, Liam Sander, Warren Woods, Evelyn Woods, and Henry Woods. He also leaves behind his psycho cat, Sniffles, and a flock of cherished grandchickens.

David’s life was a testament to hard work, humor, and heart. David left his mark not just in what he built, but in who he loved. He will be missed far more than words can express—but if he taught us anything, it’s that duct tape, humor, and heart can fix just about anything.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family, in care of Christi Tackett to help with final expenses in care of the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Lathrop Cemetery in Lathrop.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM Thursday, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop.
