Darrell Ray Whitt - age 60 of Gallatin, MO passed away Friday afternoon, October 17, 2025, at his home in Gallatin. Darrell was born on August 2, 1965, the son of Billy Carl and Jacqueline (McAtee) Whitt in Bethany, MO. He grew up in Jamesport and was a 1983 graduate of Jamesport High School. Darrell was united in marriage to Paula Dixon and to this union, two children were born. He later married Gayla Teel on September 9th, 2011, and she preceded him in death. He married Lisa (Wood) Chadwick on June 11th, 2016, at the Gallatin United Methodist church. Darrell was a member of the Gallatin Men's Club and the I35 Speedway Hall of Fame. He had been the Track Champion at US 36 Raceway as a driver and I35 Speedway as an owner/mechanic. Darrell lived and breathed dirt track racing from an early age- he was most known for racing #88. In addition to racing he also enjoyed working on cars and he was good at it. He was the owner and mechanic of Darrell's Garage for the last 17 years. Being someone that never liked to sit still, Darrell enjoyed cat fishing , having fish fries, being around people, deer hunting and going for coffee every morning. You never had to worry about what Darrell Whitt was thinking. He was always someone you wanted on your side-he would stand up for you. Darrell will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gayla; brothers, Jerry Whitt and Randy Brinnen; brother-in-law, John Wood, and sister-in-law, Tracy Michael. He is survived by his wife, Lisa of the home; children: Jeffrey Dixon (Amy) of Trenton, MO, Sarah Whitt of Trenton, MO, Dannette Peterson (Todd) of Trenton, MO, Becca Black (Kevin) of Gallatin, MO, Ryan Chadwick (Ashley) of Cameron, MO, and Kevin Chadwick (Jennifer) of Liberty Hill, TX; grandchildren: Madison, Isaac, Raiden, Caleb, Jordyn, Evan, Nicholas, Henry, Kynleigh, Quentin, Birkley, and Trent; his father-in-law, John Wood (Lois) of Norborne, MO; siblings, Sarah Hight (Richard) of Sarcoxie, MO, Bobbi Riden of Max Meadows, VA; sibling-in-laws: Dana Urton (Jerry) of Jamesport, MO, Darla Dixon of Jamesport, MO, Pam Dixon of St. Joseph, MO, Terry Pierce (Paul) of Gallatin, MO, Ina Wright (John) of Gallatin, MO, Carla Feigly (Doug) of Gallatin, MO, Barry Wood of Gallatin, MO, Amy McMahon (Lloyd) of Coffey, MO, and Joe Michael (Rose) of Winston, MO; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Kickin' Cancer with Kindness in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Darrell's life will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the AV Spillman Event Center in Jamesport, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, the evening prior, also at the Spillman Center. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin.
