Daniel "Dan" Anthony August

Daniel “Dan” Anthony August, age 79, of Lake Viking, MO passed away Thursday night, November 4th, 2021, at Carriage Square in St. Joseph, MO.  Dan was born on May 29th, 1942, the son of Anthony and Leona (Wozniak) Augustyniak in Chicago, Il. He grew up in Chicago and was a 1960 graduate of St. George High School in Evanston, Il. He went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from St. Louis University in 1964. On May 18th, 1968, he was united in marriage to Christine “Tina” Tupper in Olean, NY. To this union four children were born. Dan worked for Dresser Industries in Olean as an engineer for several years and during this time obtained a patent for a new coupling device used in the petroleum industry. He left Dresser to become an entrepreneur, establishing two new companies during his lifetime – Acorn Sales and National Property Supply. Dan lived in Houston, TX before marrying Markay Tolen Gallagher in 1997 and moved to Lake Viking. He enjoyed boating and being on the water. Dan was an excellent cook. He always loved to fish and had spent a great deal of time in Galveston boating and fishing with his young family.  Dan will be dearly missed.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Hartnett. Survivors include wife, Markay of the home; son, Danny (Anissa) August of Decatur, TX and their children, Anthony, Patrick and Emily; son, Chris (Lisa) August of Spring, TX and their son, Walker; Tim (Lupita) August of Guatemala; daughter, Katie (Jeremy) Medlen of Ft. Worth, TX and their children, Jeremiah, Jaden and Jewel; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Gallatin R-V Backpack Buddies, Gallatin DAR Chapter, Fisher House, Lake Viking Church or Friends in Christ Church in care of the funeral home. The Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, November 12th, 2021, at Lake Viking Church near Gallatin, MO, with a reception immediately following the service.
