Carrol Gene Clingan - age 85 of Lathrop, MO passed away Tuesday night, February 18, 2025, at home in Lathrop. Carrol was born on October 17, 1939, the son of Eugene Washington and Naomi Marie (Bogle) Clingan in Carthage, MO. He grew up and attended school in Carthage. Carrol married Patricia Ann Farmer on, August 26th, 1961, in San Mateo, CA. He served in the United States Army for two years before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served his country for over thirty years, retiring as a Command Master Chief. Carrol served in the Korean Conflict and also served two tours in Vietnam. Carrol was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Plattsburg. He worked at Lathrop High School for several years doing maintenance and crossing guard, and volunteered as a softball coach. Carrol was a member of the Lathrop American Legion and the VFW in Carthage. He loved to cook for community events, particularly holiday dinners at the American Legion. Carrol also served on the Friendship Festival Committee for several years and was instrumental in organizing the Veteran's Memorial at the Lathrop Cemetery. Carrol will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Carrol was preceded in death by his parents and son, Carrol Gene Clingan Jr. He is survived by his wife Patricia Clingan of the home; children, Malcolm Lynn Clingan of Indepenence, MO, Eugene Lee Clingan (Mary Frances) of Ormond Beach, FL, Dianna Marie Campbell of Lee's Summit, MO, and Scott E. Clingan of Raymore, MO; grandchildren, Danny Clingan (Liz) of Smithville, MO, Elizabeth Moore (Chris) of KY, Jeremy Clingan (Kimber) of Spokane, WA, Tiffani Clingan of Liberty, MO, Wyatt Campbell (Ashton) of Lee's Summit, MO, and Dalton Campbell of Japan; fourteen great-grandchildren; and brothers, Buyrl Clingan (Karen) of Joplin, MO and Malcolm Reese Clingan (DeeDee) of Palm Harbor, FL. Nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wounded Warriors in care of the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Lathrop Cemetery.
