Carolyn L. Birch

Carolyn L. Birch - age 81 of Gladstone, MO passed away Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Missouri. 

Carolyn was born on August 29, 1942, the daughter of Lionel and Ada Lee (Hedrick) Woollen in Kansas City, MO. She was a graduate of Southwest High School. Carolyn married Paul Goodson and to this union three daughters were born. She later married Fred Talbert Birch and he preceded her in death. Throughout her life she lived in the Kansas City area, the Truman Lake area and Lathrop, MO.  She co-owned Hickory County Sausage in Cross Timbers, MO and Birchwood Restaurant at 76th and North Oak. Carolyn also cooked for the Clay County Sheriff's Department. Carolyn loved hummingbirds, her little dogs and spending time with her mennonite friends in south Missouri. She also enjoyed crocheting. Carolyn was a loving, kind and caring person; she was beautiful and had a great heart. She loved helping people. Carolyn will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

In addition to her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Woollen. She is survived by her daughters: Kim Koelzer of Falls City, NE, Kelly Nagrassus (Rendie) of Kansas City, MO, and Kristie Hopkins (Robert) of Leavenworth, KS; her companion, Ed Martin of Gladstone, MO; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two nephews and other extended family members.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family for a memorial contribution to be designated at a later date in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, the evening prior, at the funeral home.
