Amos Ray Hodge - age 87 of Independence, MO passed away Monday afternoon, July 22, 2024, at his home in Independence, Missouri. Ray was born December 30, 1936, in Alton, Illinois, the son of William Paul and Lora Norman Hodge. He served in The United States Navy and was an honor graduate from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. Ray was a minister for the United Methodist Church, before working as a meat cutter for many years prior to his retirement. Ray enjoyed traveling and riding his Gold Wing motorcycle. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Hodge; brothers, Paul and Donald Hodge; and his son, Karl Hodge. He is survived by daughters, Karen Hodge of Elephant Butte, New Mexico and Karma Joy Hodge Shepard of Bentonville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Amber Morzos, Amanda King, Randy Shepard, and Rachel McCall; and eight great-grandchildren. Other extended family members also survive.
A service celebrating Ray's life will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, July 26, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service also at the funeral home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Lathrop Cemetery.
