One of God’s finest children was called home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
Aletha Gibbons Turley was born on February 8, 1935 in Eagar, Arizona to Austin and Mary Burke Gibbons. She was the second child and first girl in a family of 7 children. She was well-placed to be a mother figure to her younger siblings and it is a role she would play in grand fashion throughout her life.
Aletha married Arthur (Art) Turley in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on November 10, 1952. This was indeed a match made in heaven. Aletha and Art would welcome 13 children into a family brimming with love for God and for each other. They raised their children in an eternal family bond that even death can’t break. Aletha’s most precious possessions were her family, and her love for God and His plan for His children. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served others faithfully in her church, her community, and her home. Her favorite service was with her beloved Art in the St. Louis and Kansas City temples.
Aletha is survived by siblings Ralph Gibbons, Franceen Gibbons, and Roxanna Mason; 13 children: Arleta (Oscar) Argueta, Sheree (Wayne) Martin, Michael (AeCha), David (Geri), Austin (Janet), Dan (Sue), Curtis (Patty), Raymond (Julia), Matthew (Kim), Mark (Gena), Lori (Mike) Brown, Amy (Carlos) Haro, Joseph; 65 grandchildren; 135 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Willis, Gene, and Cedric, and grandson Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Active Aging Resource Center in care of the funeral home. Services will be held Monday, December 18, at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 211 Ash, Gallatin, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at the church. The internment will be at the Grand River Cemetery near Jameson, Missouri. Arrangements entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. (660) 663-2117. Online guestbook at www.stithfamilyfunerals.com
