Shirley Barrett-Duncan - age 81, entered eternal life peacefully on Friday night, November 3rd, 2017. Shirley was a resident of the Oak Pointe Assisted Living Facility in Kearney, Missouri at the time of her passing.

Born Shirley Jones on July 2, 1936, in Leavenworth, Kansas, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska as an infant. She graduated from Omaha Tech High School in 1954. In 1955 she married Jack Dier.

Shirley moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1977 and accepted a job as a Fraternity House Mom at the University of Nebraska. It was there that she met one of the Fraternity boy’s father, Howard Barrett and entered marriage with Howard in approximately 1979. She then relocated to the Kimball, Nebraska area until Howard’s death. She enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Howard for approximately 26 years. Following her husband’s death, Shirley relocated to Holt, Missouri in 2005 to be closer to her two sons.

Shirley is survived by her current husband of 10 years, John Duncan Sr. of Polo and Holt, Missouri.
Preceding her in death is her brother Barry Jones, Sr. of Logansport, Indiana and her father, Raymond Jones, of El Cajon, California.
She leaves behind two sons that include John Dier of Windsor, Missouri (with his wife Betty and grandchildren Eric and Michelle) and Jim Dier of Holt, Missouri (with his wife Debbie and granddaughter Shelby).

Shirley also considered her grown step-children from Howard Barrett as “her kids”. They include Karen Barrett Ross, Dan Barrett, Steve Barrett and Ben Barrett, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be scheduled. There will be no public funeral service. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be offered to the Oak Pointe Assisted Living Facility located in Kearney, Missouri and may be left at or mailed to Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo, MO (301 E. Elm St Polo, MO 64671.)
