Lucille Bruce Obituary

 

Lucille Bruce - age 95 of Gallatin, MO entered eternal life Saturday morning, March 2nd, 2019 at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin.  Lucille was born on September 29th, 1923 the daughter of Albert Raymond and Nora Ethel (Royston) Taul in Jamesport, MO.  She attended Netherton Rural School, Gallatin High School, Phillips University and Culver Stockton College.  Lucille accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 13 on November 23rd, 1936 and joined the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Gallatin.  On August 4th, 1946 she was united in marriage to Harold R. Bruce in Gallatin, MO.  Harold was a minister and together they served several churches including the First Christian Church in Gallatin.  She worked for the D.H. Davis Drug Company for 36 years, retiring in 2007.  Lucille was a member and Chaplain of the Gallatin DAR Chapter. She taught Sunday School and served in nearly every leadership role in her church.  Lucille was one of the first female deacons and in 1994 she began serving as the first female Elder.  On February 11th, 2015 Lucille was elected to serve as Elder Emeritus- a title given to those that have dedicated their life to selfless service to the Christian Church. She will forever be remembered for her strong faith in Christ, her knowledge of the Holy Bible, her dry sense of humor and her desire to place the needs of others above her own.  Lucille enjoyed reading and traveling. She will be dearly missed by her family, church family, friends and community. 

Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Harold; and son, Arnel Bruce.  Those left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life include: daughter, Venora (John) Deemer of Quincy, Ill; granddaughter, Stephanie Alvord; and great-granddaughter, Isabelle.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bill Steward, Junior Stith, Dennis Croy, Steve Evans, Mary Jo Pittsenbarger, Joyce Davison, Wayne Culver, Mark Abbs, Dennis Fletcher and Mark Tucker.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Gallatin First Christian Church or the Isabelle Alvord Education Fund (payable to Venora Deemer) for Lucille's great-granddaughter and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 9th, 2019 at the Gallatin First Christian Church. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 PM Friday evening, also at the church. Burial at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin.
