Lowell D. Farmer

Lowell D. Farmer - age 94 of Polo, MO passed away November 6th, 2017 at Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer, MO. He was born on September 12th, 1923 the son of John and Ruth (Scott) Farmer in Cowgill, MO. Lowell was a 1940 graduate of Polo High School. On October 1st, 1946 he was united in marriage to Mildred Pollard in Kansas City, Kansas. Lowell honorably served in the United States Army from August 2nd, 1944 until he was honorably discharged on October 22nd, 1946. He served in the Philippines and Korea while on active duty during World War II. Lowell was a farmer and truck driver. He bought his first semi in 1972 and retired from trucking in 2003, at the age of 80. Lowell served on the Cowgill R-6 Board of Education. He was a member of the Polo American Legion Post #557 and attended the Knoxville Community Church in Knoxville, MO. Lowell always put his family first and he loved them dearly. He was a perfectionist and was insistent that things be done “the right way”. Lowell was also strict about being honest.

Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred in 2012; parents, John and Ruth; and a brother, Donald Farmer. He is survived by: son, Dennis Farmer and wife Brenda of Cowgill, MO; daughter, Deborah Thomas and husband Don of Overland Park, KS; grandson Darren Farmer and wife Elaine of Cowgill, MO; grandson, Denton Farmer and wife Bobbi of Rockville, MO; granddaughter, Dana Sage and husband Dustin of Springfield, MO; and grandson, Wade Roberts and wife Amanda of Marietta, GA. Ten great-grandchildren also survive.

Pallbearers: Mike Farmer, Randy Farmer, Darren Farmer, Denton Farmer, Dustin Sage, Gerald Olney and Mark Pollard.

Honorary Pallbearers: Dean Webster, Bob Shaffer, Wade Roberts, Carl Pollard and Jim Curp.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the Cowgill Cemetery Association or to the Knoxville Community Church and may be left at or mailed to Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo, MO (301 E. Elm St Polo, MO 64671). Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, November 10th, 2017 at Knoxville Community Church in Knoxville, MO with Rev. David Miller officiating. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Thursday evening at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo, MO. Interment to follow the services at Cowgill Cemetery with full military honors.
