Kenneth "Kenny" Thomas Obituary

Kenneth “Kenny” N. Thomas – age 71 of Polo, MO went home to be with his Lord Sunday evening, January 6th, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Kenny was born on February 2nd, 1947 the son of Melvin and Mildred (Robison) Thomas-Burnett in Kansas City, KS.  He was a 1964 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Kenny served our Country in the United States Army during Vietnam from May 13th, 1968 until his honorable discharge on December 12th, 1969.  On January 30th, 1971 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Copeland at the Polo United Methodist Church.  Kenny worked various positions for the Kansas City, KS Board of Public Utilities, retiring as a union carpenter after 32 years in 2002.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, mowing the yard and going on family vacations. He especially enjoyed taking his kids and grandkids to Disney. Kenny loved his family, children and grandchildren.  He was known for his dry sense of humor and “corny” jokes.  Most important to Kenny was his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He called the Polo First Baptist Church home for almost 30 years. Kenny with be dearly missed by his family and friends. 

Our family would like to thank all of the Polo churches and the Lawson Assembly of God for all of their prayers and support during Kenny’s illness and now at our time of loss. Thank you also to Pastor Zack Searcy and Marc Knapp for their spiritual support. And a very special “thank you” to Paula from Three Rivers Hospice for staying at his side until he didn’t need her anymore.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Everett Burnett; brother, Larry Thomas; and an infant son, Kenneth Thomas, Jr.  Those left to mourn his passing include: wife, Mary Ann; son, Matthew (Wendy) Thomas; son, Seth (Abby) Thomas; daughter, Sarah Thomas; grandchildren: Madelyn, Sophia, and Seth Isaac; niece, Kelli (Jeff) Gentry; sister-in-law, Carol Thomas and son Marcus (Erin) Thomas; cousin, Patricia (Frank) Rounds; aunt, Dorotha Kieffaber; aunt, Arnita (Jack) Kuss; aunt, Ruby Robison; and other extended family members. 

Pallbearers: Jeff Gentry, Chris Copeland, Joe Pitman, Marcus Thomas, Maverick Gentry and Daniel Hess

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Prairie Ridge Cemetery or Three Rivers Hospice in Cameron in care of Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo.  Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday morning, January 10th, 2019 at the Polo First Baptist Church with Pastor Marc Knapp and Pastor Wally Aubrey officiating. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM the evening prior, January 9th, 2019 also at the church. Friends may call after 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
