Hollis T. Brazelton

Hollis T. Brazelton - age 93, a lifelong Lathrop, MO resident passed away Thursday morning, May 30th, 2019 at North Kansas City Hospital. Hollis was born on September 2nd, 1925. He was the son of Floyd and Carrie (Mellon) Brazelton of Lathrop, MO.  He was a graduate of Lathrop High School and William Jewell College where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.  On June 6th, 1954 he was united in marriage to Betty McCullough at the Lathrop Christian Church. Hollis worked in accounting and office management in the meat packing industry.  Hollis served on the Lathrop R-II Board of Education, Senior Citizen Housing Authority Board and the Lathrop Library Board.  He was a member of the Lathrop Christian Church.  Hollis was extremely artistic, enjoyed china painting, playing the piano, collecting and framing artwork and gardening.  Hollis was very knowledgeable about world news, the history of Lathrop and Converse and surrounding areas, the care of gardens and animals and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and stories with others. Hollis will be dearly missed by his family.

Mr. Brazelton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty and 9 siblings.  Those left to mourn his passing include: daughter, Lynn Carlson of Smithville; daughter, Jan (Rock) Mayes of Smithville;  daughter, Susie (Virgil) Welker of Canton; brother, Howard Brazelton of Gladstone, MO and Howard’s daughter, Debbie (Art) and family; grandchildren: Taylor (Allie);   Sydney (Peter); Courtney; Allie (Aaron); Logan (Brooke); Leigh; Andy (Amy) ; Josh (Brittany); Jerod (Aleshia); great-grandchildren: Liam; Rocko; Jordyn; Nolan; Weston; Christopher; Franklin. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.   

Memorial contributions are requested to the Betty Brazelton Community Center in care of the funeral home (PO Box 13 Lathrop, MO 64465).  Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at Stith Family Funeral Home in Lathrop. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service also at the funeral home. Burial to follow the services at Lathrop Cemetery. Friends are welcome to sign the guestbook after 9 A.M.
