Harry Smith Obituary

Harry Smith - age 74 of Gallatin, MO passed away Monday afternoon, March 4th, 2019 at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin with his wife, Lavena at his side.  Harry was born on December 21st, 1944 the son of Elmer and Lucinda (Emery) Smith in Vancouver, WA. He grew up in Shenandoah, IA and graduated from high school there. On July 3rd, 1963 he was united in marriage to Lavena Gardner in Shenandoah, IA. Harry served our country in the in the United States Navy and then in the National Guard.  He worked for the Murphy Company and then at McDonald’s as a cook.  Harry was a member of the VFW in Shenandoah.  He enjoyed watching football and doing crossword puzzles. Spending time with his kids and grandkids brought him joy.  Harry was shy, but he had a great sense of humor. He was a very kind and considerate person. 

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by: his parents; his daughter, Rebecca Beason; brother, Kenny Smith; brother, Paul Smith; brother, Donnie Smith; brother, Junior Smith; brother, Doyle Smith; and a sister, Nola Bradford. Those left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life include: wife, Lavena of the home; son, Scott Smith; son, Terry (Karin) Smith; son, Tim (Brenda) Smith; sister, Marcia (Jim) Nye; sister, Katherine; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the COPD Foundation in care of the funeral home. Funeral Services with Full Military Honor will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 8th, 2019 at Stith Funeral Home in Gallatin. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday, the evening prior at the funeral home.
