David O'Connor

David O'Connor - age 68 of Lathrop, MO passed away Monday evening, February 18, 2019 at his home.  David was born on July 10, 1950 the son of Lero and Itress Fern (Cassell) O’Connor in Cedar County, Missouri.  He was a 1968 graduate of Stockton High School.  On April 4, 1984 he was united in marriage to Michelle Watkins in Las Vegas, NV.  David spent his career in construction and was currently a foreman for Star Development in Liberty, MO where he had worked for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Lathrop Jaycees and the First Christian Church of Lathrop.  David was a hard worker, a man of integrity and a bit stubborn at times.  He had a dry and methodical sense of humor that will be missed.  David enjoyed working on his cabin, spending time with his friends and family, watching the Chiefs, crossword puzzles, solitaire games, old TV shows and tinkering with his Corvettes.  He enjoyed being a “Papaw” to his grandchildren and had a special place in his heart for animals.  Several strays in the neighborhood knew he was good for a meal twice a day.  He was a man who enjoyed a simple life and lived by his routines.  David will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. O’Connor was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Elmer, Marvin, Della Dean, Denzil Dee, Jack, Lou, Sue and Dale; father in-law, John Diibon; father and mother in-law, Lou and Louise Watkins.  Those left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life include: wife Michelle; daughter, Misty (Chad) Thomas; son, Scott (Nicole) O’Connor; daughter, Caitlin (Grant) Doerksen; brother, Joe (June) O’Connor; sister, Rose Ann (Bill) Heath; sister, Linda (Eugene) Owen; grandchildren: Vada, Charlie, Ashley, Dylan, Garrett, Harley, Rikki, Trevor, Taylor, Alexis and Brody; great-granddaughter, Annie; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.  

Honorary Pallbearers: Doug Hisel, Jerry Schwebach, Dwight Fly, Doug Watkins, Eugene Owen and Bill Heath.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to KU Cancer Center-North Kansas City Campus in loving memory of David O’Connor in care of the funeral home.  Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Lathrop with Rev. Sue Hisel officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. also at the church. Burial at Converse Cemetery at a later date.
